Sunday morning starts slow on the private patio at Coastal Breeze, the Hill Country still soft in the early light. By noon you're heading down a country road to one of the oldest Oktoberfests in Texas, and by late afternoon you're back on that same patio, still humming the oompah.
That's the whole plan, and it's a good one.
The details
Anhalt Oktoberfest is Sunday, October 18, 2026, noon to 6 p.m., at Anhalt Halle, 2390 Anhalt Rd, Spring Branch, TX 78070. Admission is free, and German food is sold on site. Check anhalthalle.com for the menu and parking before you head out.
What the afternoon feels like
The Jodie Mikula Orchestra keeps the oompah going while the dance floor fills with boots, a few dirndls, and families moving together. Lederhosen are encouraged, not required. Bring the kids. The Germania Farmer Verein was founded in 1875 and has held Oktoberfest on the third Sunday of October, with Maifest on the third Sunday of May, for more than 150 years. You can feel that history in the room.
Getting there
From US 281 and Hwy 46, head west on 46 about 4 miles toward Boerne, then turn right on Anhalt Road and follow it to the end. When you cross the cattle guard at the gate, you've found it. From the Spring Branch side of 281, it's an easy drive.
Make it a weekend
Gruene Market Days runs October 17 and 18, about 25 to 40 minutes away. Wander the booths on Saturday, then save your legs for Sunday.
Its own kind of Oktoberfest
Wurstfest is New Braunfels' big multi day tent festival. Anhalt is a free Sunday afternoon in a country dance hall close to home. Different day, different feel, and both are worth doing.
Where to stay
The Casitas at Sun Valley has six private casitas and two geodesic domes in Spring Branch, an easy drive from Anhalt Halle. Come in Saturday, dance Sunday afternoon, then roll back with the windows down, watch for deer on the way in, and settle into your own space with friends or family.
