You smell the wine before you hear the first guitar. Grapevine tables, then the walk over toward Gruene Hall. That is Music & Wine Fest weekend in the Historic District, and you drove over from Spring Branch on purpose.
The festival runs October 8 through 11. Thursday night is the free Kickoff Party at The Grapevine, then Robert Earl Keen at the Hall. Friday is Stars & Guitars, so check tickets before you build the night around it. Saturday is free Tastings & Tunes at Grapevine, then the SteelDrivers. Sunday is the All-Star Playlist show. Confirm hours and tickets on gruenemusicandwinefest.org. Daytime tastings and the evening Hall shows are separate.
The drive is about 25 to 40 minutes toward New Braunfels. You taste Texas wine and beer. You catch a set. If more friends or family made the trip, you can lose each other in the crowd and still find each other by the music.
Leave before you are tired of the parking crush. Then you are back toward Spring Branch, the Historic District falling behind you. Your own space is still yours.
The Casitas at Sun Valley has six private casitas and two geodesic domes. Book the weekend that matches the fest, not a random October.
