Spring Branch puts you in the Hill Country and still within easy reach of the big days out. Off-peak, downtown San Antonio and Six Flags Fiesta Texas are each about 45 minutes away, and New Braunfels is about half an hour. Plan a big day in the city, then spend the rest of the trip on the river, at the lake, or underground at the caverns.

Tips for an easy drive
Head into San Antonio after the weekday morning rush on US-281 and 1604, and come back before the late-afternoon push north. On summer river weekends and during Wurstfest, leave a little early for Hwy 46 into New Braunfels.
Getting to Wurstfest (November 6 to 15)
Drive about 30 minutes to the Park N Ride at the Comal County Fairgrounds, 701 Common St. The shuttle runs daily, costs $10 for ages 13 and up, is free for 12 and under, and needs no reservation. Rideshare drop-off and pickup is at Landa Park Pavilion #16, by Gate 2.
Getting around
Uber and Lyft run to the property, so you can leave the car parked after a night out in Gruene or San Antonio.

Where to stay
The Casitas at Sun Valley has six private casitas and two geodesic domes. Spend the day out, then come back to your own space, a sky full of stars, and deer wandering through at dusk.
